Online Waiting List Pre-Application

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Written requests for persons with disabilities or persons needing assistance must be put in writing to the LHA Office.

Before you begin the application process, please have available your social security card, names and dates of birth of all family members. Also you will need income of all family members. Make sure you have typed correctly all information. Have paper and pen ready to write down your confirmation number.

Submit only ONE application to the Lexington Housing Authority (LHA). Duplicate forms will not be accepted.

Applications can be received online anytime during the wait list period. Applicants will receive a confirmation number to acknowledge successful transmission of the application. By submitting this pre-application information you are not guaranteed placement on any waiting list.

Maintaining Your Status on the Waiting List
If you are added to the waiting list, you will be notified by mail when your name comes to the top of the waiting list or if we are updating our files. If you do not respond to our notifications, or your letter is returned undeliverable, your name will be removed from the waiting list. If you have a change of address, phone number, income or family size, you must notify us within 10 business days of the change. ALL CHANGES MUST BE IN WRITING. No changes will be taken over the phone. Please include your social security number on any correspondence.


  • An applicant must qualify as an individual or family as defined by LHA.
  • For those applying for Ballard and Griffith Towers: Head of household must be at least 62 years of age at the time of this pre-application
  • Family must have annual income at the time of admission that does not exceed the established income limits at the time of admission according to the maximum income by family size established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (USHUD).
  • Applicant and all adult members of the family must pass a criminal background check.
  • Applicant or any member of the family that has ever been convicted of manufacturing or producing methamphetamine on the premises of any federally-assisted housing or any family household member that is subject to a lifetime registration requirement under a state sex offender registration program will not be eligible for housing assistance.
  • Applicant and all members of the family must provide documentation of social security numbers for all family members or certify that they do not have social security numbers at the time of initial eligibility interview.
  • Applicant and all members of the family must meet USHUD requirements on citizenship or immigration status.
  • Applicant or any member of the family who currently owes rent or other amounts to LHA or any other housing authority will not be offered assistance until the outstanding balance is paid in full.

The Lexington Housing Authority (LHA) is now accepting applications for ONE (1) TWO (2), THREE (3) and FOUR (4) bedroom units located at its Public Housing Self-Sufficiency and General Public Housing sites. In addition to the requirements for all General Public Housing programs, the Self-Sufficiency program requires that the head-of-household or spouse/co-head-of-household must demonstrate he/she has been working for at least 37.5 hours per week for Self-Sufficiency I, or 20 hours per week for Self Sufficiency II. The work requirement is demonstrated by verification of continuous (uninterrupted) employment over the 3 months prior to the eligibility certification or signing a lease for a Self-Sufficiency site.*

*Elderly and disabled persons who meet all of the Self-Sufficiency Housing requirements with the exception of the work requirement may also be eligible for these units.

Applicants can apply from anywhere with internet access. If you do not have internet access, online application assistance is available at all LHA Management Offices including the LHA Central Office, 300 W. New Circle Road, Lexington, KY 40505

Online applications will be accepted from 12:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2017 for the following Family Sites:

  1. South Lexington Properties
  2. Northwest Lexington Properties
  3. Northeast Lexington Properties
  4. The following items MUST be provided at the time of application:

    • The name, date of birth and Social Security number for EVERY person who will be living in your assisted household
    • Current mailing address

    Only ONE (1) application may be submitted by an individual, and only ONE (1) group of properties may be selected. Applicants submitting more than ONE (1) application, or selecting more than ONE (1) group of Family-Site properties will be withdrawn from ALL wait lists.
